About the Race

All athletes will swim in the clean, clear water of Lake Harmony. Once out of the water and onto the bike athletes ride around Lake Harmony and out to the Pocono Raceway for a loop around the famous NASCAR track. The signature element of the run course is a short punchy climb marking the first 200-m of each loop followed by 2-miles of net downhill and a final rise towards the finish/expo area.  Olympic Rev athletes run 2-loops.  The course finishes at the expo field of Split Rock Resort where you join the post-race party.

This has got to be one of my favorite pictures ever taken of me! I remember precisely when it happened. I was climbing a hill in my aeros and a motorbike slowly passes me, leans down, and takes the shot.

Race Report

The swim is first come, first served. You enter the water two-by-two by sliding down into it from the dock. Then the race is on! Buoys are all on the left shoulder, and there were sighting buoys placed as well.  There was one section of the swim where my hand actually touched the bottom, which shocked me.  The transition from swim to bike was rather long, but there was carpet laid down to assist.  Too bad the carpet didn’t extend all the way to the back of transition, though. The bike was fun as it went inside the Pocono racetrack. It is just thrilling to be riding my bike on this track and seeing all the other riders spread out across it.  The run was brutal. It was extremely hilly, starting off with a wall right out the gate from transition.  You then do 3 other climbs and get to repeat the whole course again.  So that’s a total of 8 climbs on the run course! That was probably the hardest run course I’ve ever done.

Review

I’ve heard great things about Rev3, and was not let down at all.  This is what I expect from a solid racing company. Everything was setup and organized extremely well!  The Athlete Guide was one of the best I’ve ever read, going into details about everything related to the race.  The athlete meeting was funny and informative.  Best of all is the Rev3 community! The Facebook group dedicated to this race was filled with encouraging posts from other participants leading up to race day and for several days afterward.  I’ve never experienced anything like it.  You got all the latest, up-to-date info in this group, along with encouragement from everyone. I was able to read everyone’s stories, and was so inspired.  Second, the spectators! They really cheered you on at all the rest stops and at the end.  To this day, I remember the volunteers at the final drink station by the finishing chute chanting my name over and over again as I ran by them and across the finishing mat.  I have never felt an endorphin rush like that before.  It still gives me chills. If that’s not enough, here are more things that this race does differently than any others I’ve been in: 1) Hand-written notes in my swag bag; 2) They allow a friend to run with you through the finishing chute at the end; 3) Free finishing picture;
